THE JOURNALIST MICHAEL GARNER BACK TO VISIT VILLA SPINOSA
Valpolicella, October 23rd, 2017
The English wine journalist Michael Garner has returned to Villa Spinosa
in order to taste the different vintages of Amarone della Valpolicella Classico
and discover thewine style we follow by producing the big red of the Valpolicella.
It was an afternoon of tastings and confrontation during which Gianmaria Ciman,
Villa Spinosa’s oenologist, together with Enrico Cascella Spinosa told Garner about the
three different versions of Amarone produced by our company.
The wines we introduced to the English wine journalist, working for the wine magazine Decanter, were
Amarone della Valpolicella Classico DOCG 2013, ‘Albasini’ Amarone della Valpolicella Classico DOCG 2010,
recently awarded “Tre Bicchieri 2018”, and the
special line ‘Guglielmi di Jago’ Amarone della Valpolicella Classico DOC
proposed with the vintages 2007 and 1998.
Garner appreciated the features of the different Amarone we tasted, and above all the idea,
totally unusual in the Valpolicella, of focusing on such a long aging for years.
He also made the wish that the Valpolicella will concentrate its future not only to the Amarone
and the wines produced with dried grapes but be able to increase
the products by fresh grapes, such as the regular
Valpolicella Classico and the Valpolicella Classico Superiore.
We look forward to getting Michael Garner’s new book, “Amarone and the fine wines of Verona”,
dedicated to the Amarone and other wines from Verona,
telling about his concept of Veronese wine.
