THE VINE TYING
Spring is in the air and the Villa Spinosa’s vineyards are to be prepared for the new season
Valpolicella, March 22nd, 2017
When springis coming there is a lot to do in the vineyards: in March the vine canes aretied.
The vine tying is very important for the future of the plant: the canes are horizontally
fixed to the steel wire that holds up the plant, thus allowing a more homogeneous distribution
of the sap throughout all growing buds.
It seems easy to do but this is a job to be carried out by expert hands to avoid damages of the vines with cracks.
An exciting moment after pruning and tying is the so-called 'crying of vines'
that is when from the top of the pruned cane water drops escape.
This phenomenon is a sign of life inside the vines: from the roots the water reaches the top of the arms
and creates a fascinating tearing phenomenon.
